The “Promoting the role of women in security and counterterrorism” project by Women In International Security (WIIS) focuses on enhancing women’s participation and representation in the criminal justice response to terrorism. It develops guidelines for counterterrorism (CT) practitioners and on how to address the gender imbalance and challenges faced by Women in CT, from regulatory to systemic barriers. The project generated 10 recommendations to improve gender balance in the criminal justice response to terrorism, emphasizing a “gender by design” approach.
